PETERS: A long way to go, but crime trends in Kamloops are heading in the right direction
EVERY YEAR AROUND THIS TIME, Statistics Canada releases its overview of criminal activity across the country, measuring it with something called the Crime Severity Index.
The Crime Severity Index puts weight on certain crime categories to determine which cities are more dangerous than others.
The average is always 100. Two years ago, Kamloops was at 165. Last year, it was 132. This year, it’s 126.
It’s an encouraging trend. The city is heading in the right direction.
