Crime in Kamloops corridors trending down

Calls to City of Kamloops Community Services Officers (CSOs) dropped even more dramatically. During the second quarter this year, there were 1,263 such calls from the seven corridors. That’s down 17 per cent from the 1,518 calls in the second quarter of 2025.

“It’s extremely noteworthy that almost everything we’re seeing is trending in the right direction,” said committee chair and Kamloops councillor Katie Neustaeter. “It feels incremental in the community but we are headed in the right direction, undeniably.”

The most dramatic improvement was seen in the Columbia Street West corridor, with a 30 per cent decrease in overall RCMP calls – including a 20 per cent drop in criminal code-related calls.

“People are wondering, ‘What’s the thing we can attribute it to? What’s the one thing?’ and the answer is, ‘There is no one thing.’ There is no one solution, there is no one silver bullet that’s coming to save us. It’s creative thinking and every single human possible at the table, doing the work they can do well,” added Neustaeter.

Monday’s meeting was the committee’s last before the October 17 municipal election.
