Kamloops crime severity on slow decline: StatsCan
KAMLOOPS — Statistics Canada has released its latest look at the rates and severity of crime across the country, and it shows an overall decline in Kamloops last year. However, the city is still in the top three when it comes to reported crime among Canada’s 41 census metropolitan areas (CMAs).
The data, released Wednesday (July 22), shows the city had a Crime Severity Index rate of 126.2 last year, down 4.49 per cent from 132.15 in 2024. The index measures both the number of crimes compared to population and the relative severity of all police-reported crimes.
Kamloops also tallied 10,949 crimes per 100,000 people, and only Chilliwack (134.3 crime severity index and 11,455 crimes per 100,000 people) scored worse in both metrics. Red Deer (114.4 crime severity index and 10,592 crimes per 100,000 people) was in third place.
