Water service returns for east Kamloops neighbourhoods following repairs; water quality restrictions remain

May 15, 2026 | 8:49 AM

KAMLOOPS — Repairs have been complete for a water main that feeds six east Kamloops neighbourhoods where nearly 19,000 residents have had their water use interrupted since Sunday (May 10).

In an update Friday (May 15) morning, the City of Kamloops says residents in Barnhartvale, Campbell Creek, Dallas, Juniper, Rose Hill and Valleyview may resume regular water use.

However, water quality restrictions remain in effect and vary by neighbourhood.

The city says Barnhartvale, Juniper and Rose Hill are under a “do not consume” order while Campbell Creek, Dallas and Valleyview are under a boil water advisory.

Water for the six east Kamloops neighbourhoods will now go through “comprehensive safety testing and stages of usability” before residents are given the all clear to drink water directly from their taps. That process could take between five and 14 days to complete.

The city will provide updates as each neighbourhood progresses and water is confirmed safe for consumption.

Meantime, safe drinking water trucks will be available around the clock until 11:59 p.m. this evening at the BC Wildlife Park, Dallas Park, the Dallas fire station and Valleyview Arena. Starting Saturday (May 16), for a minimum of five days, potable water will be available from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. at the Dallas fire station and Valleyview Arena.

Residents are still asked to bring their own containers for safe drinking water. There’s a limit of up to 100 litres per visit.

Additionally, the city has committed to reviewing its communications plans following criticism that not everyone affected by the large-scale water main break got the message in time.
