City crews moving to Plan B for east Kamloops water repair; restrictions remain

KAMLOOPS — The City of Kamloops says its repair effort on a leaking pipe that serves the eastern portion of Kamloops has proven ‘unsuccessful’.

In an update issued just after 5:00 p.m. Tuesday (May 12), the city says the water system is still compromised and crews will implement a ‘more robust’ repair plan Wednesday morning.

Even so, the city is planning to begin refilling its reservoirs in an effort to restore service to thousands of properties east of Rose Hill Road.

Residents of Valleyview, Dallas, Barnhartvale, Rose Hill, Campbell Creek and Juniper Ridge were told to cease water use Tuesday morning. That demand remains in place Tuesday evening.

The order came after softer messaging Monday did not result in reservoirs being replenished fast enough for crews to work effectively.

The lack of water led to school cancellations throughout the eastern portion of Kamloops Tuesday.

In its release late Tuesday, the city says once reservoirs are sufficiently full Wednesday, crews will proceed with their ‘Plan B’ repair.

“During this period, available water supply will be prioritized for essential use only in affected areas,” states the release.

The city notes drinking water trucks will be brought to three locations for a 48-hour period, starting at 12:00 a.m. (midnight) on Wednesday. Beginning Saturday, the trucks will keep a 6:00-a.m.-to-10:00-p.m. schedule.
