Stankoven’s Stanley Cup celebrations in Kamloops delayed to August 16

KAMLOOPS — You’ll have to wait a little longer to celebrate Logan Stankoven’s Stanley Cup win this summer.

The Kamloopsian’s Stanley Cup celebration is now expected to be held on Sunday, Aug. 16, instead of Aug. 13 as previously envisioned.

Details about the city-organized celebrations have not yet been revealed, but its expected to be announced in the coming weeks. Stankoven told CFJC last month his ideas for the celebration include a gathering downtown, perhaps at Sandman Centre or Riverside Park, and a visit to St. Ann’s Academy.

The 23-year-old Stankoven claimed hockey’s holy grail with the Carolina Hurricanes to become the first player from Kamloops to accomplish the feat since Mark Recchi in 2011. His name has already been engraved onto Stanley Cup, which began its annual summer tour in Montreal this past Saturday (July 11).
