KAMLOOPS — Troy and Natalie Evans were on their way to Edmonton on Thursday (June 16) to start a new life, but shortly after passing Kamloops their dreams were dashed.

Natalie, her mother Daphne and four-week-old Troy Evans, Jr. were killed in a car crash in Vinsulla, north of Kamloops, crossing the centre line and colliding with a semi.

“Troy had got a really good job. They had found a place. They were going to start their new life together, and it was taken from him in a blink of an eye,” said Natalie’s stepsister Samantha Price, who’s started one of two online fundraisers.

Troy was following the Nissan in a moving truck when the fatal crash happened. Price says he’s struggling to cope with losing almost his entire family.

“Troy is completely shattered. He’s destroyed,” she noted. “He keeps talking about how his wife was perfect, [how] she had no flaws, [how] she was the most beautiful girl in the world. He keeps talking that he can’t believe that God took them. His newborn baby wasn’t even two months old. He’s just completely broken.”

Price says the fundraiser is to help Troy and little two-year-old Adonai, who remains at B.C. Children’s Hospital. He’s already undergone two surgeries and there are more to come on his road to recovery.

“He’s already had his diaphragm repaired, he had to get his spleen removed,” said Price. “In Kamloops, he had, after the first responders got there, or in Kamloops hospital, they had to do a quick staple down his head and face to hold everything together, so he would be stable enough to fly.”

Price says Adonai is slowly improving and should be okay.

In the meantime, the fundraising campaign for $50,000 aims to help with funeral costs and Troy’s living expenses following the crash.

“Troy right now has no vehicle, no home, no job. The whole life dreams he had planned last week, all gone like that in the blink of an eye, so we’re just trying to take off the financial burden,” said Price.
