Nearly 2,000 new cases of COVID-19 found in B.C. over three days; 87 within Interior Health

VICTORIA — B.C.’s COVID-19 spread has reached its highest levels, with nearly 2,000 new cases reported over the weekend.

In her Monday (Nov. 16) update, Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry reported 1,959 total new cases over the past three days.

The province averaged 653 new cases per day — 654 new cases on Saturday, 659 on Sunday and 646 on Monday.

Eighty-seven of the new cases recorded on the weekend were found within Interior Health.

The new cases swell the province’s COVID-19 case count to 22,944, spread through B.C. as follows:

  • 6,694 — Vancouver Coastal (up by 455)
  • 14,175 — Fraser Health (up by 1,361)
  • 381 — Island Health (up by 41)
  • 1,088 — Interior Health (up by 87)
  • 519 — Northern Health (up by 14)
  • 91 — Reside outside of Canada (up by 1)

There are 6,279 active cases of COVID-19 in B.C., including 181 people in hospital and 57 in critical care or intensive care.

Within Interior Health, there are 204 active cases of the virus, with two people in hospital and one in intensive care.

There have been nine more deaths due to the virus over the past three days, bringing the provincial death toll to 299.

A total of 10,928 people are under active public health monitoring because they have been exposed to known cases of COVID-19.

The number of those considered fully recovered has reached 16,087, which is 70 per cent of all recorded cases.

Henry reported 11 new outbreaks within the province’s healthcare system, including an outbreak involving a single staff member testing positive at The Hamlets in Westsyde.

Four outbreaks in the healthcare system were declared over, leaving a total of 52 active outbreaks in the system.

The outbreak at the Royal Inland Hospital Patient Care Tower project in Kamloops is now at 11 cases, up one from last report.
