Broncos viewing Week 2 showdown with Vancouver Island as winnable game

Things can only go up for the Broncos after an embarrassing 55-6 loss the Okanagan Sun in the season-opener at home last week. What could’ve gone wrong did, and the team knows that is partly on their own sloppy play.

“We made a lot of mistakes,” noted Yamaoka, who added it may have been good to meet Okanagan in the opener and get a big loss out of the way early. “Obviously Okanagan is a good football, but I feel we kind of killed ourselves in that game, and hopefully we can fix those and get it on film and have a chance to go out to Nanaimo and come back with a win.”

The Broncos have been taking notes on the game and have a better feel of what they can expect from V.I.

“I think the guys have done their homework and we’ve done a lot film work this week and we’ve connected the things that we needed to, so we’ve made a few changes here and there,” said Yamaoka. “The nice thing about Week 2 is we have V.I. on film now, so we actually can see what they’re doing.”

The Raiders will likely to be motivated to bounce back at home after losing to the Huskers, who hadn’t won a game since October 2014, a losing streak of 31 games.

The Broncos, despite being hammered in Week 1, are viewing this as a winnable game.

“Those are the things that help with motivation. They lost by two points, we lost by [49], we still have 0-1 records. We’re right on par, so if we can come out of there with a win, it’ll set us on a good path for the rest of the season.”
