Car accidents keep Kamloops Fire Rescue busy over the weekend

KAMLOOPS — It isn’t grassfires keeping Kamloops Fire Rescue busy.

Assistant Chief Dave McMahon says crews tended to a large volume of car accidents over the weekend.

On Saturday KFR responded to half a dozen fender benders and car accidents throughout the city.

McMahon says the spike is a likely result of more people being in the city due to the wildfires as well Ribfest and Hot Nite in the City.

“Whenever you have an increase in people it’s going to increase the number of incidents which has been the case for us,” said McMahon. “With all the evacuations we’ve had and Highway 99 being closed because of the Elephant Hill fire, its pushed a lot of traffic this way.”

The good news is fire crews received minimal grass fire calls over the last week.

“People are paying attention which is great, we hope it continues,” added McMahon.
