Quesnel man charged with murder in Yukon

WHITEHORSE, Y.T. — Yukon RCMP’s Major Crimes Unit have arrested and charged a Quesnel man with first degree murder in connection to the death of another man near Whitehorse.

Police allege 20 year old Edward James Penner, is connected to the death of 25-year-old Adam Cormack of Whitehorse.

Cormack was murdered last week, with his body being found in a forested area in Whitehorse on June 28th.

Penner appeared in Whitehorse territorial court on Sunday and was remanded into custody.

His next court date is scheduled for Wednesday.

Penner has spent time in Prince George, as recently as last year, after he had moved from the Quesnel area.

He was the subject of charges which included robbery, disguise with intent, possession of a dangerous weapon and resisting arrest which stemmed from an armed robbery incident on January 20th, 2016 at BX Cold Beer and Wine Store.

RCMP said at the time he allegedly stole cigarettes, beer, and cash from the 5th and Carney store and was someone who was well known to them.
