KAMLOOPS — Changes by credit card giant VISA mean Kamloops VISA customers will no longer be able to register for city activities by phone or through its registration system.

The city says VISA is making improvements to its procedures that require software to send additional security information with each transaction. The city notes these changes cannot be accommodated by the platform it uses for registering recreation programs, memberships and field and facility bookings.

The changes by VISA will go into effect Oct. 14 but notes clients can still use VISA in person at the Tournament Capital Centre, Westsyde Pool and Fitness Centre, and Kamloops Museum and Archives.

“Staff are working to mitigate the impact on clients by proactively providing solutions and alternatives tailored to each user group,” notes the city in a news release. “More details about the solutions and alternatives will be provided as they are finalized.”
