Family of bears rescued from tree in Prince George

PRINCE GEORGE — It was an exciting morning for the Conservation Service and the local Fire Department.

Normally when there’s an animal in a tree to be rescued by the Fire Department, it’s a cat. But not today. The local Conservation Service called the Fire Department to help with the rescue of four bear cubs from a tall tree in the Southridge area of town. The cubs had spent the night in the tree and the CO’s Office was at odds with how to get them all down safely.

That’s where the ladder truck came in handy. But it’s a first for the department.

“This is a little different for us,” says Peter Brbot, Acting Assistant Fire Chief. “I think we had four bears in the tree. They’re going to Smithers, apparently but, yeah, it’s a first for our ladder truck.”
