KAMLOOPS — The Venom’s season is over, as is their run of three straight Thompson Okanagan Junior Lacrosse League championships.

The snakes lost 12-9 to the Vernon Tigers on Thursday night in the third and final game of the best-of-five series, the first time the Venom have been swept in the league final.

Kordell Primus, who was among the many Kamloops players and coaches ejected from the game late in the third period, led the team in scoring with three goals and two assists. Primus had 14 points all series. Anthony Matusiak, also one of the Venom’s top scorers in the series, finished Game 3 with two goals and two assists.

The Tigers, who captured their first TOJLL championship in four years, jumped out to a 7-2 lead after the first period on the strength of three goals by Jake Pelletier, who finished the night with seven points. Kamloops outscored Vernon 5-4 in the middle frame before the team’s traded goals in the third.
