EARLIER:

A protester with the Tiny House Warriors was arrested at the North Thompson River Provincial Park Saturday morning.

Dawn Roberts, the director in charge of B.C. RCMP communications, says members of the Division Liaison Team (DLT) arrived at the park to discuss the ongoing pipeline protest.

“Primarily they also wanted to focus on the eviction notice that was delivered by the BC Park Rangers on Thursday,” Roberts said. “The discussions continued, we advised them of the importance of them evicting the park as per the notice. Subsequently one individual was arrested.”

The female protester, identified as Kanahus Manuel, was taken to the Clearwater Detachment.

“She’s still in custody, so we will be looking at the charges,” Roberts said. “The primary charge that could be considered is the failure to comply with the eviction notice, and mischief.”

Last weekend the park was closed for an Indigenous cultural event which grew into a pipeline protest.

The Tiny House Warriors blocked the entrance to the park, telling CFJC News they planned to stop the Kinder Morgan Trans Mountain pipeline expansion by building tiny houses in its path.

Roberts said following Saturday’s arrest, the remaining demonstrators began to pack up.

“We’re hopeful that compliance will continue.”
