City boat launches set to reopen Friday due to receding river levels

KAMLOOPS — Good news for boaters.

Receding river levels have prompted the City of Kamloops to announce city-run boat launches at Pioneer Park, McArthur Island and Thompson Drive will reopen on Friday.

Despite the move, the city reminds residents that water levels remain high and to exercise caution around waterways.

“Residents are asked to be extra cautious if there are on a river with motorized boats,” says Utility Services Manager Greg Wightman. “Idling speeds are recommended as a precautionary measure and to prevent bank erosion. Additionally, high waters have caused excess debris requiring extra vigilance for all water users.”
