KAMLOOPS — One man is behind bars awaiting a court appearance after allegedly robbing the Halston Liquor Store off Salish Road last night.

Police says the heist occured just after 11:00 p.m. when a lone male entered the store while indicating a second man was outside with a gun, watching.

"The suspect stole a quantity of cash, cigarettes and liquor before departing the liquor store," says Staff Sgt. Doug Aird. "A perimeter was set up and a police dog unit attended."

A short time later, Aird says police arrested the suspect on the North Shore just off Tranquille Road near Eighth Street.

Aird says the suspect had cash, liquor and 24 packages of cigarettes in his possession.

He says the 39 year old suspect is known to police in the Lower Mainland and will face a judge later this morning.

Aird say police have recommended a number of charges including robbery, possession of stolen property and uttering threats.

The suspect's name hasn't been released.
