VERNON, B.C. — Okanagan Lake is hitting a record high.

The lake rose above the 343 metre mark set in 1948 late yesterday afternoon.

Officials monitoring the lake say it’s been fluctuating just a drip above or below, but with the warmer weather this weekend it is likely to set a new record.

The city of Vernon says BX Creek is down from earlier, but could rise quickly with the expected snow melt.

Vernon Creek remains high, as the province increases the outflow from Kalamalka Lake, which is also up.

People living along the creek as it flows to Okanagan lake are advised to consider sandbags.

A few residents in the older section of The Holiday Park mobile home park have water in their yards and up to the back end of the homes.

Kin Beach is pretty well completely underwater now and people are reminded not to pick up debris that is scattered along the lakeshore.

The Tronson Road and Okanagan Landing boat launches remain open, but people are asked not to use those to go into the lake, but to get their boats out of the lake.

In Kelowna, more docks were submerged, flood barriers were reinforced and a number of lakefront homes on Kelowna’s west side were put on evacuation alert.

Some of them worth over one million dollars.

Boaters aren’t banned, but it’s advised they stay off the lake.
