KAMLOOPS — One of the city’s most controversial new bylaws has yet to generate any complaints.

As of January 1, local residents are no longer allowed to use cosmetic pesticides on lawns or ornamental trees and shrubs.

City of Kamloops Community Safety and Enforcement Manager Jon Wilson says, even with the tight new restrictions, his bylaw staff has yet to receive any complaints, and thus has not levied any fines for offenders.

“We act on complaints only, because often the officers are out and responding to other complaint types. They’re not proactively patrolling for pesticide use,” explained Wilson.
