ELECTORAL BOUNDARY CHANGES

Be it an early or scheduled federal vote, Kamloops MP Caputo intends to run for re-election

KAMLOOPS — Regardless of when the next federal election is called — early this spring or at the scheduled time next October — Kamloops-Thompson-Cariboo MP Frank Caputo says he intends to run again.

Caputo says he’ll be running under the Conservative banner in the new Kamloops-Thompson-Nicola riding. The electoral boundary changes will see the City of Kamloops divided between two ridings — the Kamloops-Thompson-Nicola riding and the Kamloops-Shuswap-Central Rockies riding.

“Sixth Avenue right to the Alberta border will be one riding (Kamloops-Shuswap-Central-Rockies) and then the other parts of Kamloops plus Clinton, right up to 100 Mile House but not including 100 Mile House, up the North Thompson to Blue River, Ashcroft, Cache Creek, Merritt, Logan Lake, Lillooet, Lytton, will be another riding (Kamloops-Thompson-Nicola),” Caputo explained.

The last several elections have resulted in Conservative representation for the Kamloops-area riding but Caputo says the adjustment of who the office represents won’t change the campaign plan or how the job needs to be done.

“Obviously, you do look at past election cycles, but I also grew up as a child having an NDP MP my whole life and being here for Nelson Riis. Let’s not forget that this was an NDP riding for I think, 22, 23 years, and it’s been a Conservative riding for about the same,” notes Caputo, “so you should never take anything for granted in this job. You have to still keep working for the people and do your best.”
