KAMLOOPS — A scholarship has been set up to honour the Thompson Rivers University (TRU) WolfPack men’s volleyball player who passed away in a car crash last week.

In a post to social media Saturday (Dec. 2), the TRU WolfPack said the Owen McInnis Memorial Men’s Volleyball Athletic Award is active after a $20,000 donation from two anonymous donors.

“Owyn was a son, brother, fiancé, teammate and so much more,” the WolfPack state. “He brightened the day of anyone lucky enough to talk with him and we miss him greatly.”

Anyone who would like to donate to the scholarship can do so online.

McInnis, the fourth-year outside hitter from Guelph, Ontario, was identified by his mother on social media as one of the three TRU WolfPack men’s volleyball players who were struck by a Dodge Ram truck near McGill Road and University Drive.

Online counselling services for TRU students can be accessed at Keep.MEsafe, and the university also has on-campus supports in place through the Faculty of Student Development in Old Main 1631 or over the phone at 250-828-5023.
