KAMLOOPS — The gradual lifting of fire restrictions in the Kamloops Fire Centre will continue Friday (Oct. 6).

In a news release, the BC Wildfire Service says Category 2 open burning will be permitted in the Kamloops Fire Centre effective noon Friday. Activities and equipment that will also be permitted include:

  • fireworks
  • sky lanterns
  • binary exploding targets
  • air curtain burners
  • burn barrels or burn cages of any size or description

The lifting of the Category 2 open burning prohibition in the Kamloops Fire Centre comes after the BC Wildfire Service rescinded its campfire ban on Sept. 28.

However, the wildfire service says Category 3 open fires will remain prohibited until noon on Oct. 13, or until the order is rescinded.

Anyone found in contravention of an open burning prohibition may be issued a ticket for $1,150, required to pay an administrative penalty of up to $10,000 or, if convicted in court, fined up to $100,000 and/or sentenced to one year in jail.

Anyone can report a wildfire or open burning violation by calling 1 (800) 663-5555 toll-free or *5555 on a cell phone.
