KAMLOOPS — Last Friday, the Kamloops Innovation Centre Society announced the appointment of its new Executive Director.

That announcement was followed up this week with news that KIC would make the move from its current offices on Tranquille Road up the hill to Thompson Rivers University.

Michael Andrews succeeds Dr. Lincoln Smith, who left the position in January. Andrews says he’s looking forward to getting to work building relationships within the community and growing awareness around the work that the non-profit does in Kamloops.

“The opportunity is about being able to go out and connect with other members of our community and grow my network here. That’s something that’s really important to me,” Andrews explains. “For Kamloops Innovation, the fact that we’re turning a new page and changing our location, we’re re-aligning our focus a little bit, and looking for other opportunities to drive innovation and support businesses in Kamloops and beyond.”

Andrews is excited about the opportunity to start fresh with a move to Thompson Rivers University. KIC and TRU already have strong connections, and Andrews believes the move will only strengthen them even further.

“We already have a lot of connections with TRU, through the Generator in Brown House of Learning, along with the Tourism School, we have the Tourism Innovation Lab, that we also partner with Tourism Kamloops,” Andrews says. “We’re looking to extend those partnerships with other schools here at [TRU]. We’re also looking to leverage the knowledge base that sits here at TRU.”
