KAMLOOPS — More support is coming for firefighters trying to bring the two most significant wildfires in the Kamloops area under control.

Fire Information Officer Taylor Wallace of the B.C. Wildfire Service says both the 310-hectare Bush Creek East fire, north of Sun Peaks, and the 60-hectare Lower East Adams Lake fire were showing more activity Wednesday (July 19).

“(Bush Creek East) is burning at about Rank 1 and 2 so far today,” Wallace told CFJC Today. “We had an inversion that was holding over the fire today, so that was really helpful in reducing fire behaviour on site this morning.”

There are 24 firefighters working to control the blaze Wednesday, as well as a helicopter and several pieces of heavy equipment.

“A little bit more activity on (Lower East Adams Lake) this morning,” she continued. “A little bit more visible as we had the inversion kind of lifting in that area earlier, so it was just a little bit more active.”

There are no structures threatened by either fire and no evacuation alerts associated to them.

“We are anticipating to see a resource increase tomorrow on both Lower East Adams Lake as well as the Bush Creek East wildfire,” said Wallace. “We will have more personnel coming to support and allowing resources to be spread between the two.”

Environment Canada is calling for a possibility of thundershowers on Thursday with highs in the mid-30s for the Kamloops area.
