KAMLOOPS – We are coming to the end of National Nursing Week – a time to reflect and appreciate all the work being done in the nursing industry.

Over the past five days, many workplaces have tried to acknowledge the efforts of nursing professionals in various ways.

At TRU, the nursing faculty went to Sun Peaks for a staff retreat.

“We were all together and just being able to celebrate us as a team and a community. We try to find some events whether it’s cards of flowers or something like that — just as a way of acknowledging and saying thank you,” Dean of Nursing at Thompson Rivers University, Dr. Rani Srivastava told CFJC News.

“And definitely, I love that in the media, there’s a lot of conversation about exactly what I said earlier, the differences nurses make.”

Srivastava believes this week of appreciation is especially important with all the staff shortages and added workload for those in the nursing industry.

“It’s a really important time, where we get a chance to pause and reflect on what it means to be a nurse, and the nursing profession. For me, it’s really about the impact of the profession on individuals, on communities, on ourselves.”

National Nursing Week is May 8 to 14, and this year’s theme is “Our nurses. Our future.”
