TK’EMLUPS — The family of a woman killed in a motorcycle crash on the Tk’emlups Reserve Saturday (May 6) says the crash was caused by a large pothole.

RCMP say the crash took place on Shuswap Road near Miner Road. Officers were called out at about 5:25 p.m., finding passersby performing first aid on the victim. She did not survive.

In a post to social media, family members identify the victim as 38-year-old Alexis Wiltse.

The post to the Kamloops Rant and Rave page on Facebook was made Tuesday by the victim’s sister, Jamie Wiltse.

It points a finger at the B.C. Ministry of Transportation for its poor maintenance of Shuswap Road.

“You patch a huge sink hole with a few scoops of gravel??” the post says, verbatim. “AFTER my 38yr old sister was KILLED Saturday while she was riding her motorcycle and this beast of a hole. The least you could do is some kind of signage until it’s fixed or just do it properly.”

“[F]urious about my sisters totally senseless death,” the post continues.

Jamie Wiltse encourages readers to email Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Rob Fleming to encourage him to address the issue.

CFJC Today has asked the ministry for comment and is awaiting a response.
