TNRD board passes 2023 budget, complete with inflation-driven 7.05 per cent taxation increase
KAMLOOPS — The Thompson-Nicola Regional District Board of Directors has approved the district’s annual budget, complete with a 7.05 per cent increase in revenue coming in via taxation.
In a news release, the TNRD says costs have sky-rocketed, mainly thanks to the impacts of inflation. It notes the costs of contracts, fuel and other supplies have risen dramatically, teaming with negotiated wage increases to require more from ratepayers.
“We have worked in earnest to prepare a budget that is fiscally prudent and sensitive to global economic challenges, while maintaining the ability to deliver services which we are mandated to provide,” said TNRD CAO Scott Hildebrand.
While the district will take in $25.1 million, a 7.05 per cent increase, the district says growth experienced by the district means some property owners will see smaller increases in their property taxes — or even slight decreases.
