Walhachin ordered to evacuate as Tremont Creek wildfire grows

KAMLOOPS – The community of Walhachin, 65 kilometres west of Kamloops, is under an order to evacuate by the Thompson – Nicola Regional District.

The order was put in place Saturday evening at 9:14 p.m. because of concerns over the movement of the Tremont Creek Wildfire.

60 properties are affected. The properties are identified as:

  • 3565 Anglesey Ranch Rd;
  • 156 to 172 Barclay St;
  • 4221 to 4225 Bass St;
  • 4336 to 4372 Central Ave;
  • 4208 Collins St;
  • 1425 Evans Rd;
  • 4309 to 4323 Newbold Rd;
  • 4373 Railroad Ave;
  • 120 to 148 Thompson Cres;
  • 4236 to 4529 Walhachin Rd;
  • 40 to 100 Walhachin Station Rd;
  • 4308 to 4315 Wilkinson St; and
  • any other properties located within the map below.

The TNRD says you must leave your property immediately if you are in the evacuation area. If your primary residence is within the area and you require Emergency Support Services, you should report to the Salvation Army Building at 1480 Sutherland Avenue in Kelowna.

As of Saturday morning, the Tremont Creek wildfire was an estimated 4,000 hectares in size and was classified as out of control. It is now considered to be part of the Lytton Creek complex fire.
