Province reports 287 new COVID-19 cases, third death within Interior Health

VICTORIA — Provincial health officials report 287 new cases of COVID-19 in B.C. Wednesday (Oct. 28), including 10 new cases within Interior Health.

The Wednesday update also reports two deaths, and Interior Health says one was within the region, a man in his 70s. There have been 261 deaths from COVID-19 in B.C., with three of them taking place within IH.

The 287 new cases increase the provincial total to 13,875 since the pandemic began, spread through the province as follows:

  • 4,545 — Vancouver Coastal (up by 69)
  • 7,863 — Fraser Health (up by 189)
  • 253 — Vancouver Island (up by 3)
  • 727 — Interior Health (up by 10)
  • 399 — Northern Health (up by 16)
  • 88 — Reside outside of Canada (unchanged)

The province reports 2,316 active cases of COVID-19, with 87 people in hospital including 25 in intensive care.

Within Interior Health, there are 91 cases, none of them in hospital.

Provincial health officials say there are 5,358 people under active public health monitoring due to exposure to known cases.

A total of 11,244 people are considered fully recovered from COVID-19, or 81 per cent.

There are 16 cases now linked to the outbreak at a francophone school in Kelowna, and now a new outbreak has been declared at the Okanagan Men’s Centre, an addictions recovery centre.
