VICTORIA — The province of B.C. is reporting 139 new cases of COVID-19 Friday (Sept. 18), including three in Interior Health.

In addition, Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry says 40 ‘historic’ cases are being added to B.C.’s totals. These cases were tested between Aug. 11 and Sept. 16 and belong to people without personal health numbers. The cases were handled by Vancouver Coastal Health, but had not yet been entered into the provincial totals.

That brings the number of COVID-19 cases seen in B.C. to 7,842 since the pandemic arrived, spread through the province as follows:

  • 2,817 — Vancouver Coastal (up by 103)
  • 4,007 — Fraser Health (up by 70)
  • 196 — Island Health (unchanged)
  • 492 — Interior Health (up by 3)
  • 244 — Northern Health (up by 3)
  • 86 — Reside outside of Canada (unchanged)

There are 1,803 active cases in the province, including 59 patients who are in hospital, of whom 20 are in intensive care.

Interior Health reports 25 active cases including one person in hospital.

Three more people have died of COVID-19, bringing the provincial death toll to 223.

Henry says there are 3,075 people being actively monitored by public health officials because of exposures to known COVID-19 cases.

A total of 5,797 people are considered fully recovered from the virus, or 74 per cent of all recorded cases.
