KAMLOOPS — One man has been arrested after allegedly being caught with a brand new bike minutes after it was stolen.

Kamloops RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Jodi Shelkie says on March 1 at 2:00 a.m. officers on patrol saw a car speeding out of a commercial parking lot with its headlights off.

Police pulled the vehicle over and noticed a brand new bike on a rack attached to the car.

The bike had a sticker on it from a store located where the vehicle was seen speeding away from, Shelkie says.

Another officer attended the store and it was found the business had just been broken into — the owners were not even aware yet.

The driver was arrested and the bike was returned to the store owners.

“Luckily our frontline officers make regular patrols of commercial and residential areas in Kamloops,” Shelkie says. “This was a quick and successful outcome to a break and enter.”
