KAMLOOPS — South Kam got off to the start it wanted at the AA Girls’ Provincial Soccer Championships on Thursday in Campbell River.

The Titans girls opened with a big bang, a 5-0 win in their first game of the tournament against Frances Kelsey Secondary out of Mill Bay on the Island. They followed up the morning win with an afternoon victory over Holy Cross, 4-1.

South Kam leads Pool D with six points, but they need at least a draw against Collingwood on Friday to advance to the semi-finals. Only the pool winners advance to the championship round.

Meantime, Valleyview is out of championship contention after a draw and a loss on opening day.

The Vikes started the tournament Thursday morning with a 1-1 draw against Krofton House Secondary from Vancouver.

In the afternoon, they were blanked 2-0 by Archbishop Carney. They play St. Michael’s University School on Friday morning in their final round-robin game.
