Blazers ground Rockets in overtime

KAMLOOPS — The Blazers snapped a six-game losing streak on Friday night with a 3-2 overtime win over the Kelowna Rockets.

Zane Franklin’s second of the game at 4:18 of three-on-three overtime capped a pair of Blazer rallies.

After a scoreless first Lane Zablocki gave Kelowna a 1-0 lead at 18:50 of the second.

The Blazers tied it at 7:23 of the third on Brodi Stuart’s 10th of the season.

The Blazers not only killed off the four-minute Kelowna power play, including two minutes of five against three but got the shorthanded goal from Stuart.

Kelowna took the lead back on Kaedan Korczak’s power-play goal at 15:26 of the third.

With a minute and six seconds left and on a power play and six against four with Dylan Ferguson on the bench, Franklin scored the tieing goal and then provided the overtime heroics with his 19th of the season.

Dylan Ferguson was good on 36 of 38 shots while holding Kelowna to one-for-seven on the power play.

The Blazers scored on three of 29 shots on James Porter and went one-for-four on the power play and scored a shorthanded goal.

With the win, Kamloops is two points ahead of Prince George for the second wild card in the Western Conference.

The Blazers will face the Rockets again on Saturday night in Kelowna and then return home to play Prince George Sunday at 5 pm at the Sandman Centre.
