CACHE CREEK, B.C. — Nearly 24 hours after a fatal shooting in Cache Creek, police have released little information on the incident.
Aside from one news release confirming that the shooting death took place at 7:00 p.m. last night, police have been radio silent today (Jan. 15).
A news release sent by Cpl. Dan Moskaluk at 11:19 a.m. today confirmed Ashcroft RCMP attended to a shooting incident at a home in the 1000-block of Collins Road in Cache Creek at 7:00 p.m. after a 911 call was placed.
Members attended and found a dead man at the scene.
“Initial investigation suggests that an interaction took place between two persons known to each other, investigators do not believe that the incident poses a continued direct threat to the general public,” the release states. “The Southeast District Major Crime Unit along with Forensic Ident investigators are currently at the scene.”
Information on the age of the victim and whether any suspects have been identified or arrested have not been released by police.
CFJC Today reached out to the Southeast District RCMP several times throughout the day with no response.
RCMP E-Division told CFJC Today in an email statement that they may be available for comment tomorrow morning.
Spokesperson for the BC Coroners Service, Andy Watson, says:
“I can confirm we are in the very early stages of our fact-finding investigation to determine who died, how, where, when and by what means.”
Cache Creek Mayor Santo Talarico said earlier today that he hadn’t received any additional information other than what the RCMP had originally put out, and can’t recall any homicides taking place in the community during his more than four decades in Cache Creek.
