Close to 45 Kamloops athletes coming home with medals from B.C. Summer Games
KAMLOOPS — Close to 45 Kamloops athletes are coming home from the B.C. Summer Games in Cowichan with hardware around their neck — some with multiple medal wins — after outstanding performances during the three-day competition.
In golf, 16-year-old Adam Niles, who plays out of Rivershore, captured the boys’ championship on Saturday with a one-under 69 to finish the tournament at plus four. He won by two shots over first-round leader John Kahlert from Maple Ridge.
Also coming back with gold medals are the three Kamloops athletes who helped the Thompson Okanagan boys’ soccer team win 2-1 in the final over Zone 4 Fraser River.
Two more athletes from Kamloops won gold after they helped the Thompson Okanagan girls’ 5-on-5 basketball team capture the title. They beat the fraser valley 41-30 in the championship game on Sunday to win it all and didn’t lose a game all tournament.
