KAMLOOPS — After back to back weeks of disappointment at tournaments close to home, local golfer Adam Niles is coming home from the B.C. Summer Games in Cowichan with a gold medal.

The 16-year-old who plays out of Rivershore captured the boys’ championship on Saturday with a one-under 69 to finish the tournament at +4. He won by two shots over first-round leader John Kahlert from Maple Ridge who imploded in his final round. Kahlert shot an eight-over 78.

Niles’ second round didn’t start out smooth with a bogey on the first hole, but he bounced back with consecutive birdies at eight and nine. Following two more bogeys on holes 10 and 12, Niles got two shots back with a pair of birdies on the back nine, including one on 18 to secure the title.
