KAMLOOPS — The Blazers chances of hosting the 2020 Memorial Cup have improved following an announcement by the Victoria Royals.

The Royals have dropped out of the bidding, leaving Kamloops, Kelowna and Lethbridge the three teams in the hunt to host the junior hockey showcase in two years.

A Royals spokesman says they are backing away because of the potential of community fatigue with the 2019 World Junior Championship being co-hosted by Victoria and Vancouver.

The Royals say they plan to turn their attention to 2023, the next time the Western League will host the Memorioal Cup after 2020.
