Kamloops’ Farmers Market wraps outdoor season, prepares for move indoors

KAMLOOPS — The tents came down at the Kamloops Farmers Market this weekend, as its final outdoor shift makes way for a winter move inside.

A few costumes were among the customers as the market wrapped up its outdoor season on Halloween. Since April, vendors have been filling shopping bags with local produce, baking and handmade goods.

Greg Unger, the manager of Kamloops’ Farmers Market says even with the elements providing some trouble, it couldn’t keep customers away.

“Right from the very start, we’ve been busy, Unger said. “Every week there was, you know, of course, some smoky days in the middle of summer, but that didn’t really seem to deter anybody.”

“Even on the smoky days, we seem to have pretty good attendance.”

The next stop? Somewhere a little bit more sheltered.

The indoor market opens Nov. 7 at the Mount Paul Community Food Centre, and it will runn Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m.

It’s a smaller setup, with room for 24 vendors, but Unger says shoppers will still find familiar favourites.

“For November and December, we’re still going to have farmers bringing, carrots, potatoes, garlic, squash — things that store well over winter,” Unger said.

“We’re going to have a lot of the bakers that you all love, and we’re also going to have a small selection of crafters every week.”
