Unger said it has been an “interesting spring” in the Kamloops area because of the ever-changing weather. The periods of hot weather followed by cold snaps and rain have led to challenges around panting crops, but there is optimism that the overall growing season won’t be impacted.

“The weather has been unpredictable,” Unger said. “But I think by July, August, we’ll still be – provided there’s no major climate events this summer, I think we’ll be off to a good season. The hot weather to begin with has certainly accelerated things but I think it’ll be a good growing season in general.”

With construction underway on both First Avenue and Fourth Avenue downtown, Unger is urging market patrons to plan ahead and use public transport where possible to avoid potential parking impacts.

“My understanding is they are laying new bricks for the crosswalks which should only take a few weeks, so it shouldn’t impact our Wednesday market too much, but yeah, there is lots of construction so check ahead before making your way down here.”
