Glenn Close, Ridley Scott To Receive Honorary Academy Awards After Many Losses
Glenn Close will receive her first Oscar at the 2026 Governors Awards, after 8 career nominations without a win. The Academy announced Wednesday that Close will join director Ridley Scott and Disney’s first Black animator Floyd Norman as Honorary Award recipients. Close holds the record with late actor Peter O’Toole for most acting nominations without victory. (Her nominations include Fatal Attraction, Dangerous Liaisons, The Wife, and Hillbilly Elegy.) She came closest in 2019 when Olivia Colman upset her Best Actress bid for The Wife. Scott, a four-time nominee behind Gladiator and Alien, will also receive an honorary statuette. Norman worked 65 years at Disney on films like Sleeping Beauty and The Jungle Book. The Governors Awards recognize outstanding contributions to film industry beyond traditional competitive categories. The ceremony takes place November 15th.
