KAMLOOPS — JP Hurlbert, Tommy Lafreniere and Nathan Behm combined for five goals and 10 points to lead the Kamloops Blazers to a 6-2 win over the Vancouver Giants Saturday (March 7) at Sandman Centre.

Hurlbert led the way with a goal and three assists, while Lafreniere and Nathan Behm chipped with two goals and an assist each as the Blazers – who hadn’t won back-to-back games since late January – picked up all four points on offer this weekend.

Jordan Keller scored the other goal for Kamloops as the team honoured former goaltender Devan Dubnyk on Legends Night. The 39-year-old Dubnyk is the 14th player and third goaltender added to the Blazers’ Legends Banner at Sandman Centre.

Following the pre-game ceremonies, it was Sam Charko who opened the scoring for the visiting Giants. Vancouver led 1-0 after the first period as the Blazers couldn’t capitalize on a few scoring opportunities of their own.

They more than made up for it as they scored the next six goals – four of which came in the second period. Behm struck just 23 seconds into the period, and he then made a nifty pass to Hurlbert, who doubled the lead with a highlight-reel goal at 13:53.

Behm and Lafreniere added to the scoresheet 2:20 apart to make it 4-1 Blazers after 40 minutes of hockey. Lafreniere then struck shorthanded at 1:14 of the third period as he and Keller found themselves on a 2-on-1 breakaway.

Keller rounded out the scoring with a power play goal at 11:40 of the third. Will Sharpe finally put an end to the Blazers onslaught with a consolation goal at 18:53 to make it a 6-2 final.

Blazers netminder Logan Edmonstone stopped 26 of 28 shots to pick up the win. His counterpart Kelton Pyne was the busier netminder as he made 40 saves on 46 shots.

Kamloops (28-22-7-5) sits fifth in the Western Conference with 65 points from 62 games, four ahead of sixth place Spokane (32-29-1-0) with six games to play. The Blazers are eight points clear of ninth place Victoria (26-27-5-3).

The Blazers continue their homestand against 10th place Tri-City (26-30-4-1) on Wednesday (March 11) at Sandman Centre.
