KAMLOOPS — The Kamloops Blazers gave up a goal with six seconds left on the clock en route to a 3-2 shootout loss to the Prince George Cougars on Valentine’s Day Saturday (Feb. 14).

Aidan Foster then scored the winner in the 14th round of the shootout at Sandman Centre as the Blazers (25-18-6-5) blew another multi-goal lead against the Cougars (32-19-2-0). They’ve slumped to their seventh defeat in eight games against their B.C. Division rival this season.

Tommy Lafreniere opened the scoring for the Blazers with the only goal of the first two periods. He netted his 31st of the season at 8:29 of the first period after he wired a shot past Josh Ravensbergen, who finished with 32 saves on 34 shots.

Josh Evaschesen, who scored the Blazers only goal in the shootout, was also on the scoresheet in regulation with goal number 28 this season. The 19-year-old made it 2-0 just past the 10 minute mark of the third period.

The Cougars wouldn’t go away though as Kayden Lemire pulled one back at 12:21 before Terik Parascak tied things up at 19:54 to force overtime. Parasacak somehow redirected a Carson Carels point shot past Blazers Latvian netminder Ivans Kufterins, who stopped 31 of 33 shots.

Dmitri Yakutsenak scored the other shootout goal for the Cougars who remain in third place in the Western Conference with 66 points from 53 games. Kamloops is fifth with 61 points from 54 games.

Next up for the Blazers is a Family Day matinee against the Victoria Royals on Monday (Feb. 16). It’s the second game of parent’s weekend in Kamloops.
