CLINTON, B.C. — The Thompson-Nicola Regional District (TNRD) will extend support services at the Clinton Resiliency Drop-in Centre into November to support those who were impacted by the devastating Pear Lake wildfire.

The TNRD said while supports are still available for Clinton residents and those in the surrounding rural area, the location has changed.

“The Resiliency Centre at the Clinton Curling Club has officially closed as recovery services transition to the next phase,” a statement from the TNRD said. “For continued support in recovery, a Recovery Drop-in Centre is now available at the Clinton Library, located at 1506 Tingley Street. At this centre, residents can receive bottled water, donated quilts, and referral supports.”

“Clean-up kits also remain available, and can be picked up at the Village of Clinton office located at 1423 Cariboo Highway.”

The resiliency centre will be open on Mondays from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. until Nov. 30.

The TNRD said Red Cross case managers will also be available between Oct. 21 and Oct. 30, and Nov. 18 and Nov. 27 at the following times:

  • Mondays – 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
  • Wednesdays – 9:30 a.m. to 11:45 a.m.
  • Fridays – 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The Clinton Food Bank at 1401 Dewdney Avenue is also available to support residents in need from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Tuesdays.

“Stop by and top up your pantry with food generously donated to support the people of Clinton and the surrounding areas who have been affected by wildfires. Dog food is also available. Please bring a reusable bag if you are able,” added the TNRD.

The Equality Project is offering support as well, with weekly lunch, clothing and toiletries available at 1260 Stage Road in Cache Creek from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

The TNRD said free, in-person counselling services are also available to residents one day per week.

“The Clinton Health & Wellness Centre is operating free clinician and mental health counselling services on Wednesdays from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm. The Centre is located at 1510 Cariboo Highway,” said the TNRD.

This past summer, the massive Pear Lake wildfire forced the entire community out of their homes and businesses for three weeks, from July 24 to Aug. 15, with the final evacuation alert lifted on Sept. 23.

Mayor Roland Stanke said more than 100 structures were destroyed around the outskirts of Clinton.

You can find additional information from the TNRD’s website.

“The TNRD appreciates the many volunteers, community members, and partner organizations who made the Clinton Resiliency Centre a welcoming space for connection, support, healing and recovery during August and September,” added the regional district statement.

“The TNRD also is grateful for local businesses and non-profit organizations who have supported community members with cleanup, debris removal, water, food, cleanup kits, and much more.”
