100 MILE HOUSE — The Cariboo Regional District (CRD) has ordered an evacuation for 38 properties in response to the Bowers Lake wildfire, about 48 kilometres east of 100 Mile House.

The fire was first reported on Friday (July 17) and has grown to about 150 hectares.

“Take the Windy Mountain Forest Service Road, turn right on to Judson Rd and then left to Horse Lake Rd, and continue to Highway 97 or Highway 24,” said the CRD.

The out-of-control Bowers Lake wildfire is one of about 100 lightning-cause wildfires that sparked on Friday across B.C., following a weather system that saw dry lightning storms sweep through the province.

The BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) expects these conditions to linger with more dry lightning over the coming days.

“Hot and dry conditions are persisting throughout southcentral B.C., leading to increased wildfire risk and growth. The weather for the next few days remains hot and dry with gusting winds,” said the BCWS.

Officials said the BCWS is combating the blaze with ground and aerial crews.

“Initial response included initial attack crews from the Cariboo Fire Centre, supported by aviation resources, including helicopters and fixed wing aircraft. Ground crews are establishing access points and building indirect guard,” said the BCWS.

Evacuation Orders and Alerts are are also in place in the Thompson-Nicola Regional District for the Fiftynine Creek and Tin Cup Creek wildfires.
