100 MILE HOUSE, B.C. — The Fiftynine Creek wildfire has exploded to an estimated 4,000 hectares since it was first discovered in Friday, causing the Thompson-Nicola Regional District (TNRD) to elevate its evacuation response.

TNRD officials have ordered an evacuation for 131 properties near Big Bar Lake in Electoral Area “E” (Bonaparte Plateau). The impacted areas include:

  • 2340 to 4010 Big Bar Road
  • 880 to 1075 Isadore Road
  • 1792 to 2264 Marriot Road
  • 3629 to 3655 Sharptail Road
  • 4385, 4405, and 4415 Big Bar Road
  • 2760 and 2769 Dog Creek Road
  • 1876 to 1948 Lake Drive
  • 3380 to 3600 Meadow Lake Road

“If you are in the described area, you must leave immediately. A person must not enter the Evacuation Order area for purposes of residing, occupying, or visiting the area. Anyone being newly evacuated near Meadow Lake should travel east to Highway 97 on Meadow Lake Road,” said TNRD officials.

The TNRD has also put another 63 addressed properties on Evacuation Alert in response to the rapidly growing wildfire. This includes the following areas:

  • The area west of the current Evacuation Order area to Poison Lake Road
  • The area east of the current Evacuation Order area to Highway 97

Residents in those areas are urged to be ready to evacuate at a moment’s notice should conditions escalate further.

“This Evacuation Alert is in place to prepare you to evacuate your premises or property should it be found necessary. Residents will be given as much advance notice as possible prior to an Evacuation Order; however, you may receive limited notice due to changing conditions,” said the TNRD.

The Fiftynine Creek wildfire, approximately 54 kilometres southwest of 100 Mile House, is one of about 100 lightning-cause wildfires that sparked on Friday across B.C., following a weather system that saw dry lightning storms sweep through the province.

The BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) expects these conditions to linger with more dry lightning over the coming days.

“Hot and dry conditions are persisting throughout southcentral B.C., leading to increased wildfire risk and growth. The weather for the next few days remains hot and dry with gusting winds. Dry lightning will continue throughout the evening and evening with very little precipitation forecasted,” said the BCWS.

The BCWS has ground and aerial crews responding along with heavy equipment and a structure protection team.

You can find more details on the Evacuation Order and Alert on the TNRD’s website.

Elsewhere, the TNRD also has an active Evacuation Alert in place due near Green Lake due to the Tin Cup Creek wildfire.
