BOSTON BAR, B.C. — The two fires burning near the Fraser Canyon community of Boston Bar have nearly doubled in total area, leading to expanded evacuation orders and alerts.

Wednesday evening (July 8) updates posted to the BC Wildfire Service website show the Brunswick Complex fires at more than 19,600 hectares.

“Over the last 48 hours, the Fraser Canyon is experiencing sustained strong winds, dry conditions and no rain. As a result, we are continuing to see elevated fire behaviour and activity on both fires within the Brunswick Complex,” said the update.

“This wildfire has grown substantially over the last two days, and is highly visible from North Bend, Boston Bar and surrounding communities.”

The growth has prompted new evacuation measures, including the first warning for residents within the Thompson-Nicola Regional District (TNRD).

Sixty-one properties within the TNRD’s Electoral Areas ‘I’ and ‘N’ are now under evacuation alert. The alert area includes all addressed properties West of Spius Creek, including Petit Creek Road and Prospect Creek Forest Service Road. Residents should be ready to leave on very short notice.
