East Kamloops residents told to temporarily halt water use again as crews complete ‘critical repairs’
KAMLOOPS — (UPDATE 4:30 p.m.): As thousands of homes and businesses in East Kamloops remain without water, the city says crews are making good progress on a critical repair to a broken main along River Street.
In a media briefing at 3:45 p.m., Joe Luison, the city’s assistant civic operations director, said reservoir levels are “still holding well”, and that crews have a good opportunity to complete the work on schedule.
“Residents are helping us our greatly by not using any water at this time,” Luison said. “That is great to see.”
During that briefing, Luison said crews had successfully excavated their way to the bottom of the 500-millimetre concrete pipe some 15 feet underground. They were cutting out the damaged section so it can be replaced with a PVC pipe before packing in the dirt.
