BOSTON — Former Kamloops Blazers captain Fraser Minten has won a second individual honour in his first full season as a Boston Bruin.

The 21-year-old Minten is the latest winner of the Seventh Player Award as chosen by an online fan vote. The award is given annually to the player who exceeded the expectations of Bruins fans during the season.

“It’s great, Minten said in a video released on Bruins social media. “Always happy to hear that fans are happy with my game and the team’s game.”

Along with a trophy, Minten was given $5,000 to donate to the charity of his choice – Home for Little Wanderers, which helps children who are abused, neglected or at-risk.

Minten played all 82 games and set career highs in goals (17), assists (18) and points (35) this season. He also led all NHL rookies in plus-minus (+21), and tied for eighth in both goals and points. The Vancouver native was also named the NHL’s Rookie of the Month in January.

“I believe I could be a player like this,” Minten added. “I believe I can be a lot better still, too. I don’t know if I’ve necessarily exceeded but I’m happy with the year I had.”

Minten and the Bruins will meet the Buffalo Sabres in the first round of playoffs. Game one of the best-of-seven series will be played in Buffalo this Sunday (April 19).
