Kamloops building sector off to busiest start within the last decade

KAMLOOPS — The Kamloops building sector continued its hot start to 2026. 

New numbers released by the City of Kamloops Building Inspection Division show nearly $21.1 million in activity was recorded over 68 permits for February 2026 — up slightly from nearly $20.7 million recorded over 71 permits from the same month last year. 

Year-to-date, 2026 is the busiest two-month start for the Kamloops building sector over the last decade. Nearly $38.8 million in activity was recorded over 142 permits, just surpassing the $37.5 million recorded over 132 permits during the first two months of 2025. 

In February 2026, two industrial permits were worth a combined $9 million while eight commercial permits were worth a combined $6.3 million. On the residential side, a permit for a single-family dwelling was worth $1.3 million while five permits for alterations were worth just over $1 million. 

Kamloops continues to have a stronger start when it comes to new housing units as well. Permits for seven residential units were issued in February 2026, identical to the same month in 2025. Year-to-date, permits for 43 residential units have been issued compared to 10 during the same two-month period in 2025. 

The Kamloops building sector had its third-busiest year on record in 2025 with builders taking out just under $350 million.
