KAMLOOPS — Two people have been charged in a four-year-old Kamloops homicide investigation.

In a news release issued Tuesday (Sept. 23), RCMP say Tristan Bris Fernandez and Robery Lloyd Sedore are each facing charges of second-degree murder in the killing of 29-year-old Adam Hibbert.

Hibbert’s body was discovered on October 1, 2021 along the Thompson River shoreline near the entrance to the Mission Flats Landfill.

At the time, police said Hibbert’s killing was not believed to be random and investigators did not believe the public was at risk.

“This was an extensive and complex investigation that required a high level of commitment, collaboration and determination,” said Supt. Jeff Pelley in the release. “Over the course of this investigation, our members worked tirelessly, often under challenging circumstances, to gather evidence, follow up investigative material, and ensure that every aspect of the case was thoroughly examined. Their dedication reflects the professionalism and perseverance of our investigators.”

“While we cannot speak to the details as these matters are before the courts, I want to acknowledge the significant effort that has gone into bringing the investigation to this stage,” said Pelley. “The work of our investigators demonstrates our commitment to ensuring public safety, supporting victims and their families, and holding individuals accountable through the justice system.”

Fernandez has a lengthy history of police involvement.

Just three days after Hibbert’s body was discovered, Fernandez was taken into custody after a standoff at Canada’s Best Value Inn on the east end of downtown Kamloops. He had been wanted for a downtown robbery that occurred on August 3.

In June of 2021, four months before Hibbert’s killing, Fernandez robbed the McCleaners location in the 1200-block of Summit Drive. A woman was stabbed in the incident.

Fernandez pleaded guilty to one count each of robbery and possession of stolen property in May 2024, and was sentenced to five years in jail. In the release issued Tuesday, spokesperson Cpl. Dana Napier noted Fernandez was already in custody when he was charged with Hibbert’s murder.

Sedore is also no stranger to the criminal justice system, with a list of past charges dating back to 2007 in B.C. CFJC Today featured his story in November 2018 as he moved into Osborne House on Mission Flats Road, a transitional housing facility.
